Integrating In-Home IoT Into Daily Life
Chamberlain was already a leader in the manufacturing of home controllers, but through our consultative engagement they became a pioneer in connected-home technology. We partnered with Chamberlain to build the MyQ® platform, an IoT application that lets homeowners control their garage doors and home lighting from any smart device, along with an ability to set schedules, track activity and allow access to other family members to collectively keep their home secure. As a result of creating the MyQ® platform, Chamberlain became a premier partner with Apple; integrating MyQ® with Apple’s HomeKit framework allowed Chamberlain to increase their customer base.
Customer Experience Strategy
Chamberlain came to us to strengthen their existing MyQ® mobile app by improving the code quality. Through this engagement, we discovered the current app wasn’t scalable. We developed and executed a product strategy of going beyond just making an app to building a robust IoT platform that could handle future enhancements that Chamberlain wanted to make while delivering a better user experience.
Strategy and Solution
We worked across Chamberlain’s hardware, firmware, research and development, electrical engineering, and marketing teams to ensure the MyQ® IoT platform is capable of supporting not only current hardware but future products and services as well. MyQ® is equipped to interact with Nest, XFinity Home, Google Assistant, Honeywell Home Connect and other smart home brands and platforms.
Need an app? No, a platform
Thinking bigger, we recommended going beyond making an app, to building an IoT platform. Getting more devices on the platform – switches, gates – extended utility.
Sustainable strategic growth
With ongoing digital consulting, we’ve helped Chamberlain launch MyQ® on three platforms – iOS, Android and web – that are an integral part of their long-term company growth.
Building client capabilities
Initially, our team was embedded at Chamberlain to be fully immersed into their organization and share our knowledge. Over time, we’ve helped them build their own software capabilities.
