Play games, raise money, help kids — Extra Life 2018 at Nerdery office locations in Chicago, KC and Minneapolis
Philanthropic gamers at Nerdery offices in Bloomington, Chicago and Kansas City will unite for one cause the weekend of November 3-4, 2018: to improve the lives of kids with disabilities and serious illnesses. The Extra Life 24-hour gaming marathon asks tens of thousands of gamer from around the world to commit to playing for an entire day to raise money for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
In the last six years, Nerdery’s Extra Life Nerds team has raised more than $140,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Team members raise money simply by playing the game(s) and activities of their choice for 24-hours – and gathering pledges and donations. To make local impact, people at three different Nerdery office locations raise funds benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in their city, including:

From 11 a.m. -1 p.m., patients of Gillette Children’s (families and children) will visit Nerdery in Bloomington to play games and show their appreciation for fundraisers. Here are stories about two of the visiting families:
The combined-office goal for Extra Life Nerds this year is $50,000 – largely from players getting donations and pledges from friends, family and fellow Nerds (Nerdery matches all employee donations). Previous to Extra Life weekend, Nerdery participants have organized multiple supplementary fundraising events, including a dad-joke competition, trivia contest, breakfast, lunch, bourbon tasting and poker game.
Extra Life Nerds saw an opportunity to further serve the entire Extra Life community by building a dashboard for teams to track their fundraising – and making it freely available to all teams, everywhere.
