Bloomington: February Nerd Therapy

Join us at HQ for this month's Nerd Therapy Event: Accessibility: Why you're ignoring 20% of your users and you don't even know it.

Welcome to Nerd Therapy. We’re here to help. Our goal is to connect passionate technology and business professionals in our community – and for you to come away thinking, “Good talk.” With the help of our Nerds each month, we'll work you through the intricacies of applying technology to business solutions. You’ll learn how to untangle the users from the personas and the APIs from the IPs through panel discussions led by technology experts.

Join our software engineers, project managers, user experience designers, solutions architects and all Nerds in-between on the last Tuesday of every month.

Don't you feel better already?

February Topic: Accessibility: Why you're ignoring 20% of your users and you don't even know it.

There’s a stigma that sites cannot be accessible, have great user experience (UX) and be beautifully designed at the same time. We’re here to break that stigma wide open with this month’s Nerd Therapy discussion, Accessibility: Why you’re ignoring 20% of your users and you don’t even know it.

We’ll walk you through the many complex considerations that go into creating a fully-accessible site, so you walk out our doors with actionable insights to drive real business outcomes, including:

• Users: Without a fully-accessible website, who are you leaving behind?

• Accessibility testing: Just how accessible is your website?

• Requirements: We'll cover Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance, Section 504/508 and ADA requirements as well as what they mean for you and your design team.

• Design: Learn features that will make your site look as sharp as it performs.

5:30 - 6:00 p.m.: Appetizers, craft beer*, networking and on-the-spot accessibility testing

6:00 - 7:00 p.m.: Nerd Therapy panel discussion

7:00 - 8:00 p.m.: More appetizers, beer, networking and testing

*Not in the mood for a brew? We have a soda robot (Coca-Cola Freestyle machine) and, of course, copious amounts of Red Bull for you to enjoy.
