Fampus was born from the need of a better way for college students to keep track of events on campus. Knowing firsthand how difficult it is to keep track of the multitude of athletic events, concerts, student clubs, and countless other events, Fampus was created with the creed “find fun fast on campus” in mind. Fampus wanted a fresh start from an initial website that didn’t meet their needs, and we were thrilled to partner on building a new cutting-edge website from the ground up.
An aggressive timeline on a project of this size and scope meant The Nerdery’s User Experience (UX) team had to draw blueprints for the rest of the development cycle as fast as possible. Our UX department kicked things off by dedicating a full week to work through each functional detail of the site and constructed multiple mental maps laying out the new Fampus feature set. Through constant communication with the Fampus team, UX was then able to finalize site requirements, create process flows, wireframes, and visual interface designs for web and mobile platforms.
When UX passed their work on to development our programmers were ready to rock, armed with firsthand knowledge of the project due to our “embedded UX” philosophy. The project’s lead developer participated in all the UX meetings, fully aware of what his team would be tasked to build. Additionally, a style guide was created to illustrate every possible component on the site, with visual examples on look and function, allowing the development team to build modular code and better understand each site component.
To make their new web home truly cutting edge, Fampus unleashed The Nerdery’s full capabilities by asking for the latest and greatest technology compatible with the most recent browser releases – music to a nerd's ears. We also enhanced their administrative functionality, allowing Fampus improved control over their data and internal processes.
The new Fampus launched in August 2011. We were flattered when their CEO, speaking to The Nerdery at one of our Friday Bottlecap events, expressed how we proved ourselves over and over again and made their life easier. The Nerdery echoes those sentiments as we too look forward to a long and lasting relationship.
