As shoppers rely less on Sunday newspaper fliers and depend on their Smartphone to find what they want, The Nerdery partnered with Minneapolis agency Sevnthsin to create JCPenney Weekly Deals, a multi-mobile platform targeted app.
When The Nerdery got involved, it was late October and Sevnthsin had already worked with other mobile developers to launch a nice initial version of an iPhone app for JCPenney. Sevnthsin knew they needed more nerds this time, as their client wanted a version 2.0 iPhone app ready for holiday shopping - along with a mobile website built in Symfony for Blackberry and Droid.
About three weeks later, mobile shoppers on all these platforms could sync up their style on the go by flipping through the weekly specials of their nearest store (geo-targeted), and holiday shoppers were creating and editing wish lists.
The team tackled the iPhone app first, given the Apple's Store's comparably lengthier review process. By Black Friday, The Nerdery's team had finished in less development hours than estimated. A second release around Christmas-time let users share gift ideas and lists via Facebook, Twitter and email.
More recently, The Nerdery again partnered with Sevnthsin to recreate - and enhance - this experience for iPad's earliest adopters with a JCPenney iPad app released just a couple weeks after Apple launched the iPad.
Because our agency partners at Sevnthsin are experienced and talented mobile developers that really get it, we were able to get a lot done in a hurry.
