Award season at The Nerdery
Nerdery and agency partners get two Communication Arts Awards, one Racie Award (but little if any Oscar buzz)
Nerdery Interactive Labs (The Nerdery), a division of Sierra Bravo, rode the coattails of two different agency partners in winning two Communication Arts Awards: one for Skimmer as web development partner of Fallon; and, TakeMeFishing.org, in partnership with Colle+McVoy.
Ad agency partners Fallon won Communication Arts Award in the Self-Promo category for Skimmer, a lifestreaming application co-created in Adobe AIR by 16 Nerdery programmers to pool people’s Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Blogger and YouTube content.
“Our world feels fragmented; Skimmer is a graceful way to bring personal media back together and prove a point about what agency services are about,” said Communication Art Award juror Glen Sheehan from T3 in Austin. “A beautiful design and structure wrapped-up in an agency calling card. Smart stuff.”
“Having partnered with Fallon on several of their client’s interactive projects, we play to each other’s strengths ,” said Tom O’Neill, Sierra Bravo’s vice president of software development. “They bring the design and strategy, and we bring enough nerd cred to create code for unprecedented social media mash-ups. Skimmer was one big playground for us here at the Nerdery.” Previously, Skimmer also won a Gold Lion at the Cannes Lions international advertizing festival.
TakeMeFishing.org – the ultimate online tackle box for fishers – earned its Communication Arts Award in the category of Info Design. Said juror Rachel Pasqua from New York agency iCrossing about Colle+McVoy’s project for clients Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation: “The beautifully simple and intuitive design of this site is perfectly in-tune with the spirit of the sport and manages to present a tremendous amount of info without being overwhelming.”
“As programmers, we count our blessings when we get a project like TakeMeFishing.org,” said O’Neill. “It’s cool to work with partners like Colle+McVoy for clients who see the value of social media and really get it.” Previously, TakeMeFishing.org earned a PRSA Bronze Anvil Award for superior performance in the design and execution of an individual tactic within a broader public relations program.
In the same week, Nerdery partner’s SevnthSin won a Racie Award for the JCPenney Weekly Deals iPhone app. Said Sevnthsin on the win, “JCPenney medaled in many categories, but we’re all very excited to see our efforts achieve a medal in a new category. Congrats to all involved, especially our boys down at The Nerdery who moved mountains at the 11th hour many a time during the pre-holiday build up.”
