When: Thursday, Feb. 25, 6-9 p.m.: 6-7 – Group Q&A and brief advisory remarks from volunteers and nonprofits with previous Challenge experience; 7-8:20 – Speed-dating; needy meets nerdy as volunteers make the rounds to visit reps from each nonprofit for five minutes; 8:20-9 – Social time

Where: Benchmark Learning (event sponsors) 4510 West 77th St. in Edina, MN

Why: Preparation is crucial for The Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge; it’s a fun event but it’s a significant working commitment for all participants. While web teams won’t know which nonprofit they will work for until moments before the 24-hour countdown begins at 9 a.m. March 20, event organizers want volunteers to use the pre-Challenge mixer to get familiar with what the nonprofits wish to accomplish with their new, free website. And, while no team can choose which nonprofit its 9-10 volunteers will serve pro bono for 24 hours, matchmakers take into account feedback from volunteers on how they think their team’s skill-sets match each nonprofits organizational needs.

In addition to pro bono services from interactive professionals, nonprofits get:

·      Complimentary education in design and web applications, business analysis or project management from sponsor Benchmark Learning

·      Complimentary web-hosting on sponsor VISI’s ReliaCloud service

·      Complimentary digital communications advice from sponsor LaBreche

Additional in-kind sponsors: Arthouse; Bruegger’s; Buffalo Wild Wings; Chipotle; GitHub; Jimmy Johns; Kowalski’s; Peace Coffee; Pizza Luce’; Red Bull.
