Walser

iPad app for Walser's staff on the showroom floor

Walser, an auto dealership with six Twin Cities locations, wanted to modernize their sales process. Walser’s sales staff had been using a traditional desktop computer, requiring frequent trips back to their desks to retrieve information or take a customer through a sale. The Nerdery collaborated with Walser to improve their sales environment with technology that would attract younger talent to their growing sales force while also personalizing the process for customers.

To help us research the exact needs of Walser’s sales staff, one of our user experience team members went undercover to Walser’s dealerships. While undercover, our team member adopted three different buyer personaes and noted what technologies could improve the sales process. Using the iPad as the suggested technological platform, our UX team architected a solution that would be easy to use for the busy sales reps. We followed this with wireframing our solution before presenting Walser with multiple creative concepts and custom icon illustrations. After Walser selected a layout, we designed the final interface and transitioned into development.

Our development team programmed an iPad app based on our UX team’s findings. The app allows Walser’s sales reps to showcase their Walser Rewards program in a customizable manner for each customer. Through the app, customers are able to see their savings – and the perks – of purchasing from Walser. By entering a customer’s home address, they can see a visual representation of all the rewards available near them.

Despite the release of the iPad 2 in the later half of the project and subsequent technical challenges with the new platform, we were able to resolve the issues in time to successfully deploy the app on schedule. Walser and The Nerdery have worked together several times since launch on smaller maintenance items and have been exploring new partnering opportunities.

This was a fascinating engagement because it exposed us to a new market and several new processes. It was a lot of fun to work and discover where we could leverage technology to improve a very efficient and well oiled process that has stood the test of time.
