Fast 50 Diary: Is gridlock good for business?
Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal story by Chris Newmarker
Political logjams, both on Capitol Hill and in the state capital, have upended what had been the outlook for business this year…Gridlock doesn’t necessarily hurt business, but it can throw plans into disarray. For the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s Fast 50 Diary companies, the effect on business depends on what the business is…The head of a digital interactive firm sees little direct effects from government actions, and is moving forward with business plans.
Government actions, or lack of them, aren’t as much of a concern for Luke Bucklin, the president and CEO of Bloomington-based digital and interactive firm Sierra Bravo Corp.
The firm, which does business as Nerdery Interactive Labs, partners with advertising and marketing agencies, providing them with expertise on Web development and social media tools that they might not have in-house.
“The regulatory wild cards that are out there, they aren’t influencing as much what our active clients are up to. Our clients are doing work for all kinds of businesses,” Bucklin said.
Sierra Bravo is more caught up with its business goals. That includes a recent strategic alliance with an Edina-based game production studio called Snow Owl Studio.
SnowOwl, a small firm with less than 10 people, will be able to provide game design experience to Sierra Bravo – a needed service as advertising firms use more online games as part of their marketing strategies.
“Our hope is that when an agency has that discussion with their client, and decides the game is right, that they get the help from our partner SnowOwl,” Bucklin said.
